HRD Inc. & Mo Divers

plate.jpg (235361 bytes)

Historical Research and Development, Inc. (HRD) is a  company engaged in the historical research, archaeology, and marine excavations of America's Colonial period shipwrecks. A privately held Florida corporation, HRD was founded in 1988.

Using archival information and a program which translates recovery location data to a computer generated "site map,"     HRD has been successful in giving new meaning to the commercial recovery of cultural materials from various   shipwrecks along Florida's east coast.

Demostenes "Mo" Molinar is the most successful treasure hunter in  Florida since the 1715 Fleet shipwrecks were re-discovered over thirty  years ago by Kip Wagner and his Real Eight Company. Wagner,  realizing  the magnitude of the 1715 Fleet wrecks, later talked to Mel Fisher into moving his treasure hunting business from Southern California to Florida to assist Real Eight in it's recovery operations. Mo worked for Mel and also moved to Florida at this time. After a few years of successful recoveries in  the 1715 Fleet, Mel Fisher moved his search and salvage operations to the Florida Keys to look for the 1622 wreck  of the  Nuestra Senora de Atocha.

While searching for the Atocha, Mo discovered a previously unknown shipwreck in 1972. After nearly 10 years of on again - off again artifact recovery and research, the wreck site finally gave up the ship's bell.   After carefully removing nearly 300 years of sea growth, the unknown ship's name, "HENRIETTA MARIE" and a date, "1699" were revealed. The first, and to date, the only, slave ship to be found in New World water's had been identified.

After the 1985 "big pile" recovery of the main ballast area on the Atocha,  Mo Molinar decided to strike out on his own and left Fisher's company. Mo founded his company, MO DIVERS, in 1987 and in that same year, on the Nuestra Senora de las Nieves, made the largest recovery of Spanish gold coins on the 1715 Fleet since the early days of the  Wagner/Fisher partnership. 238 gold coins, including a magnificent 4 escudo "royal" presentation piece, were found in Mo's first year as Mo Divers.

Since this time, barely a year has gone by, where Mo has not made a magnificent find of gold, silver, jewelry or other unique cultural material.
